![]() I always mix into 24 bit/44.1 kHz wavs which are chained in different sequences ("Chunks" in DP), leaving some seconds of silence between them. Although I have POD Farm, I like to run the guitars directly through a POD XT Live to save resources and minimise possible problems. I use DP 7.22 in a MBP 2.16 Core2Duo with a MkII Ultralite. i'd be happy to keep away from other big cpu/ram hogs like high end reverbs, samplers with big banks, amp modellers and so on.Īll that seems doable in mainstage, if you're willing to do it manually, but i want it all automated. is this realistic? i'm thinking of running guitar rig, a couple softsynths, a looper (sooper looper maybe?) and 3 tracks (one for main feed, one for vocalist, one for the drummer) however i'd plan to do a lot of automation on the synths and guitar rig - looping a rif automatically at a certain bar, changing synth and guitar rig patches midsong, heavy use of triggered gates, lfos, wahs, messing with the synth patches, filters, and adsr's and stuff. I'm cool with keeping things as simple as possible, you gotta be realistic. that's great to hear! and i've heard phrases like "rock solid" and "never had a crash" used by people on other forums about dp, but, you know, live shows - i wanna make sure i'm not buying into hype/bullshit here! ![]() ![]() No crashes so far, though I tend to keep things simple: the fewer the tracks, parameters, etc., the more reliable. What you mention can be easily done in DP. **** fcb1010 i'd imagine, everyone on here seems to rate them *** for backup i imagine i'd do something like keeping a setlist full of all the backing tracks on, say, my iphone or a minidisk player or something, and a pod HD around in case things went totally south with the laptop during a gig, but ideally this wouldn't need to get used much, if ever * (10.7, 2ghz core i7, 4gb ram which i could up to 8 if need be) so far i feel like motu DP would be the best way for me to go, but i wanna hear what you guys think. the last one's specific to what *i* want to do with it. So, the first 4 questions are probably going to aplicable to anyone who's thinking about running a guitar or virtual synth rig through their laptop. but then you're running 2 big ass programs, arent you? have any of you actually tried that? interesting concept, but i wonder how stable it would really be. i heard you can run logic at the same time, and link the two together via IAC port. i want this! it's stupid that MS doesn't have this as an option. i really want to play my guitar without having to **** with foot pedals - i mean, how awesome would it be to have your patch change at the chorus without you having to walk across stage and press the damn button at just the right time? or have some kind of tempo-matched or super slow wah pedal effect play itself? etc etc. automation! at first mainstage seemed perfect, but it has 1 BIG drawback - no automation of midi parameters. i think this is very easy to do in mainstage, a little harder but possible in digital performer, and in ableton, bidule, jambalaya, or logic. ![]() starting/stopping and looping songs in a setlist: the first song ends, the marker stops and jumps ahead to the beginning of the next song, singer says a few things, i push a button on my guitar controller****, next song starts, gets to a looped part for an extended freeform solo/jam, when the band finishes that i tap another button and the song continues from there, etc. multiple outs - the singer needs her own feed, the drummer needs click and/or loops for timing etcĤ. which are the most robust and crashproof?ģ. which of these have the lowest latency?Ģ. 1st 4 questions are kinda generic, fifth relates mostly to me and my particular, hypothetical setup.ġ. I'm happy to have this thread be a sort of generic "which software is best for playing live" thread, but if anyone wants to help me figure out which one is gonna work for my needs, that would be great. well, thats what i read on the internet anyway also, i heard, if you're going to use mainstage but want all your shit automated, you can just use logic instead - if you tweek it right, supposedly it's just as stable as mainstage. but also there's motu's digital performer, ableton live, plus there are some left field options like plogue bidule and jambaLaya. obviously it's got to be rock solid***įrom about 3 hours of googling and reading through various forums, including this one, it seems like i have a few options. I just got a new macbook pro*, and i want to use it for running a guitar through guitar rig, plus 2 or three softsynths controlled by the same guitar** i plan to use it with a live band, and need software to run both guitar rig and the softsynths.
